A-Z backog challenge: Faery

Going to cut to the chase. This is probably the worst game I have finished as part of the backlog challenge over the last 2 years. I would have given up on it if I had others starting with F that weren't so long (looking at you final fantasies).

In this game you are tasked with finding out what is causing the magic to die in the faery world. You travel to 3 different worlds (excluding the starting location) and do various quests to find out what is wrong in each. The locations are varied and don't look too bad. You have a desert city on and under a giant crab, a ghost ship and a giant tree.

The writing is decent and you can check back on quests and the different characters you have met in a useful journal.

Unfortunately the quests are extremely monotonous. Many are either extremely boring and occasionally frustrating fetch quests with a lot of backtracking. The map in the game is poor so at times it is difficult to find where you need to go.

The rest of the quests involve fights. The fights are about is uninspired as you will find in any rpg. They are turn based affairs where you can choose to attack, use magic or an item from inventory. Some attacks use 1 action point with others 2 or 3. The magic is the usual elemental stuff- fire, air, earth, and water. Some characters also have healing.

You gain xp which can be used on new active skills or passive boosts (health, damage etc). The upgrades you choose changes the way your character looks (tattoos, wings, horns etc. You also collect item sets which boost various stats.

You meet various characters along the way, including a pirate and dragon, but you can only use a party of 3 at any time. You don't upgrade their skills in the same way. Instead, Aa the story goes on, they will occasionally ask which spell of 2 they should learn.

Some of the bosses look pretty cool but the fights are no more exciting, you just have to use more healing spells and items. Thankfully none of the fights last very long and their aren't that many of them.

I got this as part of the Spider collection which included Mars: War Logs, Bound by flames and Of orcs and Men. It's interesting to see where the studio started and how far they have come but I would no recommend spending much time on this one.
