I am a big fan of Collectible card games and think more should be made which are single-player focused rather than the online multiplayer ones which always seem to get their pricing structures wrong and become pay-to-win. Unfortunately this one has a few too many ideas that have been abandoned or just don't work. The story is a pretty overused one. After the Duke is poisoned you uncover a plot to weaken the alliance between man, Elves and Dwarves. You are tasked with travelling across the land to piece the alliance back together and discovering who is behind the treachery. Although the plot is pretty boring, I enjoyed the writing which was quite amusing. There is a world map with various locations where you meet different characters, fight battles and find shops to buy new cards from. A-Z backlog challenge: Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak

I am a huge fan of the original Homeworld. It was an epic Space RTS in which you traveled across the galaxy to find the world where your people originally came from. Homeworld DoK is a prequel which sees you travelling through the desert to find technology which will both save your people in the present time and then be used to make the events of Homeworld 1 possible. Like in the original, there is no basebuiding. You have a massive aircraft career which acts as a production and research center but can also fight quite effectively once you have built up the energy reserves. You send out salvagers which collect CUs (construction units) and RUs (resource units) to allow you to do both. You start off building light attack vehicles and over the missions move up to building larger armoured vehicles, cruisers as well as fighters and bombers. A-Z Backlog challenge: Banner Saga

Banner Saga combines a choose your own adventure style visual novel with tactical battles. The story has a Viking legend setting and the story alternates between you controlling two caravans containing various heroes as well as a number of Varl, fighters and other men. One of the caravans sees Varl (Giant humanoids) accompanying the human prince to the Varl capital to make an alliance against the monstrous dredge who are moving south to threaten all as they had done in the past. You are introduced to a lot of characters very quickly and I feel this takes a bit away from building a connection with them. The second caravan is a more personal story. Here we meet a hunter, Rook and his daughter who find dredge close to and later attacking their home town. They lead survivors across the continent in search of a safe place to resettle.
