Transfer time

I made slow progress with the challenge, only playing knights of pen and paper.
My characters are between level 25 (switched in a cleric for the druid) and 32 (ever present Paladin) now. Tried the knight but didn't seem too good. Should finish the game tomorrow.

In PES 2016 it wasn't looking like I could get Red Star promoted. We were in 5th 11 points behind the top 2. I had offers to return to South America with an Argentinian or Chilean team, or move to one of two teams struggling in the English championship. I decided on Blackburn. They had some solid players like Jordi Gomez, Danny Guthrie and former Everton center back Shane Duffy.

I thought I could get them up towards mid table. I joined them in 20th. With 5 games to go they were only up to 18th. It's pretty tough to find space behind opposition defences when you have an attacking midfielder and 2 strikers in front of you. Although I have found it tough, I don't regret the decision as I learnt a lot about playing in a tougher league and about the formation and style of play of the team I want to join in future.



I bought some other games on the steam sale. Cities:Skylines and Rebel Galaxy have been on my wishlist for a while and Mafia 2 was too cheap to pass up.

Metro 2033 redux

This is such a well known game that it doesn't seem necessary to review in detail so I'll just give some quick views. The upgraded graphics are of course very good although I was much more impressed with the backgrounds than the character models. The sound and atmosphere was beautiful. It was enjoyable to have such different areas- the dark abandoned tunnels, stations teaming with activity and the eerie post- apocolyptic Moscow aboveground. There are a fairly large number of weapons to choose and customise- from revolvers, shotguns, rifles, flamethrowers etc. You can also use grenades and throwing knives. I enjoyed fighting the human enemies where using stealth and headshots was common. Shooting charging hordes of mutants with shotguns was less fun. I also preferred the parts where you were fighting with allies which made a change from all the time you spent alone. Weekend gaming

I've been  a bit sick so haven't been playing as much as I'd like. I did however manage my first 10 win spellweaver trials. They were all very different decks but all very good. The first was nature/rage. Nature has lots of small fast creatures for early damage. I then had a lot of burn to do the final points (plus burning rage for card draw).  The second was nature/dominion. This focussed on keeping my opponents side of the board clear. 3 landslides and 2 stormfairies return to hand or to top of deck opponent's creatures. Then if he floods the board I can use cataclysm for card advantage. Advanced Despina is also awesome in control decks (she can search for opponents creatures in their deck and put them onto the battlefield on your side. The final deck was wisdom/corruption. This relied on shocking opponents creatures so they couldn't attack and you can either get favourable trades or just keep attacking your opponents life total. Daris and Du

Alien Isolation Review

In space no one may be able to hear you scream but on the Sevastapol station humans, androids and the Xenomorph can hear you slightest movement in this tense stealth action game. In Alien Isolation, you play Amanda Ripley, daughter of Ellen Ripley. The ship your mother was on has been found and you set out to discover what happened to her. When you arrive all hell has broken loose on the station as systems are ailing throughout the station and different groups have banded together to try to survive and escape. It has a very similar atmosphere to Deadspace but with for the most part, a lot less combat. The levels are large and beautiful. They have kept the aesthetic of the movies in terms of color schemes as well as the shape and materials of objects such as airlocks, levers and doors.
