Nexus: The Jupiter Incident

Image
In Nexus you play Marcus Cromwell, a ship captain who gets brought into a interstellar war. You start out with 1 ship and over time control a larger fleet which you can upgrade with a number of different types of weapons and other systems -shields, ecm, engines,  energy batteries etc. You will meet rogue corporations, alien races and rogue A.Is during this epic journey. This seems really fun but unfortunately some types of weapons seem underpowered and because you don't get resources refunded when you remove parts you cannot change strategies quickly. For example light lasers only destroy systems when shields are not existent or down. In most missions you are fighting many enemies so destroying individual weapons systems is pointless when it takes fairly long to take down the shields and much less time to destroy ships hulls. There are also missions where you need specific systems or weapons but the briefings don't give any indication of this. You therefore need to ei...

Metro 2033 redux

This is such a well known game that it doesn't seem necessary to review in detail so I'll just give some quick views. The upgraded graphics are of course very good although I was much more impressed with the backgrounds than the character models. The sound and atmosphere was beautiful. It was enjoyable to have such different areas- the dark abandoned tunnels, stations teaming with activity and the eerie post- apocolyptic Moscow aboveground. There are a fairly large number of weapons to choose and customise- from revolvers, shotguns, rifles, flamethrowers etc. You can also use grenades and throwing knives. I enjoyed fighting the human enemies where using stealth and headshots was common. Shooting charging hordes of mutants with shotguns was less fun. I also preferred the parts where you were fighting with allies which made a change from all the time you spent alone. I wouldn't say it has been one of my favourite FPS games but I enjoyed it enough to play La...

Weekend gaming

I've been  a bit sick so haven't been playing as much as I'd like. I did however manage my first 10 win spellweaver trials. They were all very different decks but all very good. The first was nature/rage. Nature has lots of small fast creatures for early damage. I then had a lot of burn to do the final points (plus burning rage for card draw).  The second was nature/dominion. This focussed on keeping my opponents side of the board clear. 3 landslides and 2 stormfairies return to hand or to top of deck opponent's creatures. Then if he floods the board I can use cataclysm for card advantage. Advanced Despina is also awesome in control decks (she can search for opponents creatures in their deck and put them onto the battlefield on your side. The final deck was wisdom/corruption. This relied on shocking opponents creatures so they couldn't attack and you can either get favourable trades or just keep attacking your opponents life total. Daris and Du...

Law and Order review

Image
Finished Law and Order as part of clear the backlog challenge. I still have a few Telltale games to play but so far this is my second favourite after Game of Thrones. Like the show, the first part of the episode you start playing as one of the policemen or women investigating a murder. Part of this is done through looking for evidence in hidden picture game style (I didn't enjoy that) and the rest is interviewing witnesses ad suspects and trying to catch them out in any lies and contradictions. You get a score based on how fast you found the evidence and how well you did the interviews. In the second part you play as one or more of the lawyers, questioning and cross-examining people on the stand. This challenges your memory and logic as you must remember all the details from earlier as well as object for the correct reasons to sway the jurey. Towards the end of the trial you can offer a plea and see how that goes based on how the defense sees the trial going. ...

Knights of Pen and Paper finished.

Finally beat the dark knight. He could one shot kill a few of my guys so that was not easy. Luckily got to a situation where he was just hitting my tank (Paladin) and the other 2 alive could chip away at his health. The rest of the game was pretty easy. Somewhat tempted to try play a bit with some of the characters I haven't tried- especially the necromancer looks fun- but will leave it for a while. I'm sure I won't play through the whole game again. I played chapter six of Law and Order:Legacies   . It was a lot better than the previous one. The murder was set in a high school and had some interesting characters and events. There was no court case though as the suspect confesses to the murder. Looking forward to the final episode and seeing how all the cases tie together and things are wrapped. Only played a few games of PES . Against City there were a lot of chances but stayed 0-0 until Aguero scored in the 90th minute. form in the league was mixed- two wins and two l...
